Frequently Asked Questions

Pain & Comfort

Does permanent makeup hurt?

Most clients describe the sensation as mild scratching or light pressure — not painful. A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment to keep you comfortable throughout. Most clients are surprised by how manageable it is.

Will it be sore afterwards?

The treated area may feel tender, slightly swollen, or warm for a day or two — similar to minor sunburn. This settles quickly. Full aftercare guidance is provided after every treatment.

Healing & Aftercare

How long does permanent makeup take to heal?

Surface healing takes 7–14 days. Full, deep healing takes 4–6 weeks — which is why the top-up is scheduled at 6 weeks. During healing the colour will appear darker, then soften. This is completely normal.

Why does the colour look so dark immediately after?

Fresh pigment always looks more intense than the healed result. As the skin heals over 4–6 weeks, the pigment settles and softens to its true healed colour. The final result is what you will see at your 6-week top-up.

Why do I need two sessions?

As the skin heals, pigment can settle unevenly in some areas — this is normal. The 6-week top-up perfects and locks in the final result. Both sessions are included in the price. Attending both is essential for the best long-term outcome.

What do I need to do for aftercare?

Full written aftercare instructions are provided after every treatment. Key points: keep the area clean and dry for the first week, avoid sun exposure, swimming, saunas, and active skincare on the treated area during healing.

Longevity & Colour

How long does permanent makeup last?

Results vary by treatment: brows typically 1–3 years, lip blush 2–3 years, eyeliner 2–4 years, SMP 3–5 years. Factors include skin type, sun exposure, and lifestyle. A colour boost can refresh results when needed.

Will the colour change over time?

Quality pigments are formulated to fade gracefully rather than change to an undesirable colour. Alex uses professional-grade pigments. Older or cheaper PMU work can change colour — this is what Li-FT removal treats.

Suitability

Am I suitable for permanent makeup?

Most people are. A free consultation will confirm whether you are. Common considerations include: active skin conditions in the treatment area, certain medications, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and keloid scarring history. When in doubt, book a free consultation — Alex will always give you an honest answer.

I’m older — am I too old for permanent makeup?

Not at all. Alex regularly works with clients in their 60s, 70s and beyond. Permanent makeup can be genuinely life-changing for mature clients who have lost brow hair through age or over-plucking, or who find daily makeup application difficult.

I have very sparse or no brows — will it work?

Yes — this is often the ideal candidate for Hyperrealism Brows. The technique fills gaps precisely with individual hair strokes. Clients with little to no brow hair often see the most remarkable results.

Correction & Removal

I have old, bad permanent makeup — can you fix it?

Possibly. It depends on the current state of your brows — colour, depth, shape, and how much pigment is present. Alex will always give you an honest assessment. If she believes she can achieve a good result, she will explain your options. If not, she will tell you rather than take your money.

What is Li-FT saline removal?

Li-FT is a non-laser technique specifically developed for cosmetic tattoos. A saline solution is worked into the skin to draw out unwanted pigment. It is gentler than laser on facial skin and works on all pigment colours including white and yellow. Most clients require 3–6 sessions.

Booking & Process

Is the consultation free?

Yes — always. There is no obligation to proceed.

Do I need a patch test?

A patch test is offered at every in-person consultation and is recommended. It must be done at least 48 hours before your treatment. You may waive it if you prefer, but Alex always advises having one.

Is it the same as a regular tattoo?

No. Cosmetic tattooing uses different pigments, different needle configurations, and is applied at a much shallower depth than body tattoos. This is why it fades over time rather than lasting permanently like a body tattoo.

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes — Klarna Pay in 3 is available, allowing you to spread the cost over three interest-free instalments. Details at booking.
